The 80,000 square foot overlay project was very complex due to the construction schedule. It is a doctor’s office that needed to stay open while the parking lot was being re-done. The concrete contractor chose a 3-day window to place the project. Wednesday was prep day including raising manholes and cutting back asphalt to match curbs. Drop off and dumpster pads were done with full depth replacement with the excess material trucked out. 64,000 square feet of concrete was placed in 12 hours for the main parking area on Thursday. After the pour, a 2nd shift crew came in to sawcut and seal the concrete. On Friday, they placed the driveway area. Cleaning and stripping of the forms took place on Saturday and by Monday, light duty vehicles were driving on it. Additionally, the facility switched out the lighting to LED lights for additional savings and to have a higher solar reflectivity index. The mix design was a specified 4500 psi which was a binary mix design of slag and cement with water reducer. The concrete contractor did the parking lot design and placed it using a 30-laser system. Yardage for the project was 1,230 cubic yards of concrete. At the end of the project, the owner was extremely happy with the outcome because of the aesthetics of the concrete along with the light reflectivity of the lot.
