2.3 MSF ( 54 acres ) 6″ DuctilCrete PCCP. 150 KSF 7″ Unreinforced PCCP This project was originally designed with an HMA specification only, based on the significant granular cross section design and an abundance of onsite embankment the GC & K&M Concrete proposed an alternate of 16″ CTS sub base, 3″ of crushed rock and a 6″ DuctilCrete cross section for consideration. To provide a reliable source of concrete K&M Concrete collaborated with Croell Ready Mix to provide a dedicated plant located approximately one mile offsite to provide concrete materials. Our set up and grading crews worked in tandem to ensure proper elevations, grading was accomplished with our CAT 12 road grader performing the mass grading and our Bobcat blade cleaning up the tight spots, both equipped with 3D technology to ensure an accurate base. In the first few days of site paving experiencing unusually low humidity levels, high winds, heat and dust from the large construction site presented challenges in controlling plastic shrink cracking despite our normal efforts, it was deemed necessary to re schedule place and finish operations to overnights in an effort to provide a better atmosphere for both our Team and materials, With the overnights providing more favorable conditions we were able to place and finish with confidence as well as increase production. During the early stages of this project we worked with Somero Enterprises to perfect their new Broom and Cure machine, after a few weeks of R & D and collaboration with the Somero Team K&M Concrete Construction purchased the first machine sold in the USA. To date we have completed approximately 1.8 MSF and have set a new K&M Concrete record for single shift placement of 83,000 KSF. We are very proud of our Team for their constant effort to improve means and methods every day.
